Transition

#003

Transition is a sculptural ceramic vessel inspired by ancient pre-Columbian and Mesoamerican traditions, where cacao vessels served as sacred containers for ritual drinks and offerings. Used in ceremonies marking moments of transformation, from marriage and purification to death and the afterlife, these vessels accompanied important transitions between states of being.

Reinterpreted as a contemporary object, Transition can be used as a vase or planter. Flowers and plants evoke the perpetual cycle of growth, decay and renewal, extending the vessel’s symbolism into the present.

A play of roughly textured mattes and glossy blacks, deep greens and earthy browns contrasts with subtle greys, creating a surface on which light and darkness continually shift.

Materials Stoneware decorated with slips and glazes, wood-fired.
