Rectangular Dinner Plate #01, together with Oval Dinner Plate #01, is a study into the ideal form of a dinner plate. How does it feel to eat from an angular plate rather than the familiar round one? Does a rectangular plate change the experience of eating and might its shape feel more suited to fish or perhaps to meat?

The decorative pattern is inspired by Neolithic motifs found at archaeological sites around the Yellow River in China. In these early patterns, I am drawn to the search for essential forms: a visual language that emerges from a fundamental relationship between form, texture, and use.

The study reflects my broader interest in ancient cultures, particularly their earliest manifestations, and in the origins of forms that have remained part of everyday life. At the same time, it continues my longstanding attention to thoughtful design of ordinary objects: objects whose form is not merely decorative but can influence how they are held, used and experienced.
